What is an AI agent?
An AI agent is software that takes a goal, works out the steps to reach it and uses tools such as your inbox, CRM or database to act on it. Unlike a fixed script, it reads messy input, decides what to do next and hands risky actions to a person for approval before they happen.
Example
A support agent reads a refund request, checks the order in Shopify, drafts the reply and waits for a team member to approve the refund.
In one line
Software that takes a goal, decides the steps to reach it and uses tools to act, instead of following a fixed script.
