What are AI guardrails?

Guardrails are the rules and checks that limit what an AI agent may say or do. They include allowed tools and actions, spending limits, blocked topics, data access scopes and validation of outputs before they are used. Good guardrails stop most mistakes automatically and send the rest to a person.

Example

An agent may look up any order but can only issue refunds under a set amount, and every outgoing message is checked for personal data before sending.

In one line

Rules and checks that constrain what an agent may say or do, such as allowed tools, spend limits, blocked topics and output validation.
