What are embeddings?
Embeddings are lists of numbers that represent the meaning of a piece of text, so a system can find passages that say the same thing in different words. They power semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation, letting an agent find the right policy, contract clause or past ticket even when the wording differs.
Example
A search for "cancel my plan" finds the help article titled "Ending your subscription" because their embeddings sit close together.
In one line
Numeric representations of text that let a system find passages by meaning rather than exact words. The basis of most retrieval.
